Instrumental music and guided meditations promoting wellness, stress relief and healing.
What do I mean by 'healing music'? I believe that music 'moves' us and speaks to our inner-selves. The 'voice' of music is so strong and compelling that our bodies respond to its melody, rhythm and pace with no conscious effort. We become at one with the music and are able to respond emotionally to it by mirroring what we are hearing. In this way we put ourselves in the position of being more open to harmonisation with the music. Therefore, if we listen to calm, soothing melodies and rhythms then the rhythm of our bodies are calmed, soothed and de-stressed. This state of rest and relaxation induced by music is then conducive for our bodies to begin the natural processes of deep recuperation and healing.
Guided meditations can also enhance our experience as listeners as we may also focus on the voice, visualise the journey our guide takes us on whilst also responding to any music present.
I feel that when I set out to write music that is calm and relaxing, or have in mind a particular end use for the music, such as for the healing arts, then the inspiration that comes to me is given directly in response to my stated intention. This I feel greatly heightens the strength of the 'voice of the music' in working its purpose.
These thoughts are not based on any scientific theory rather they are what I have come to believe over the years when composing.
